We are pleased to publish our events programme for 2024.

Most of the events will be primarily of a practical nature, being out and about, seeing and believing. The bulk of the events will be led by Maurice Parkinson.

Please note, that if unforeseen circumstances arise, we will make appropriate changes and keep you informed but please keep in touch on each occasion.

SNOWDROPS AND THE GARDEN IN WINTER

Saturdays 10th and 17th of February, 2:00pm to 4:30pm.

Ballyrobert Gardens has in excess of 250 varieties of snowdrops, from large whites to charming yellows. See and learn about these wonderful plants glowing in a garden with lots of winter interest from the charming cyclamen to the red and orange stems of willows and dogwoods.

Maurice will show attendees how to locate snowdrops for best effect, demonstrate their propagation and how to plant.

The charge is £14 and includes refreshments.

There is a limit of 30 attendees for each occasion but groups of at least 15 can be booked for alternative dates during the snowdrops period.

SPRING INTO ACTION

Saturday 20th April, 2:00pm to 4:30pm.

Spring is a favourite time at Ballyrobert Gardens, with a multitude of plants emerging, others flowering but this time of year is an important time for completing a number of key tasks in the garden. This event will focus on these elements with demonstrations, visiting exemplar parts of the garden and dealing with queries attendees may have.

WILD IN THE GARDEN

Saturday 18 May, 2:00pm to 4:30pm.

One of the key principles in the design and upkeep of Ballyrobert Gardens was to create a garden that maximised wildlife, and we believe we have been very successful in that respect. This event is an opportunity to find out how this has been achieved and in particular focusing on the range of measures that Maurice has undertaken in a unique and creative manner.

HOW TO MAINTAIN GARDENS PROFESSIONALLY

Saturday 15th June, 2:00pm to 4:30pm.

Let Maurice show you how Ballyrobert Gardens are maintained, using only two days per week staffing throughout the year.

Not possible? Come to see the end result and hear lots of tips.

PROPAGATION OUR WAY

Saturday 17th August, 1:00pm to 4:30pm.

Why not join us for our very popular workshop at which many gardeners over the years have taken part.

As a business, we propagate plants in huge numbers and have learned the most effective techniques for a wide range of plants.

This is a totally hands-on workshop and participants are allowed to bring home their propagules.

Plant material, tools, and materials are provided but feel free to bring your own equipment.

The charge is £40 and includes refreshments.

IT’S CYCLAMEN TIME AT BALLYROBERT GARDENS

Saturday 21st September, 2:00pm to 4:30pm.

We have been propagating and planting autumn flowering cyclamen for many years and the result is carpets and masses of clusters of this wonderful plant throughout the garden.

This is a very tough and hardy plant, and its peak flowering time is September. Cyclamen are perfect for every garden from the smallest to the largest.

This event is an excellent opportunity to learn from Maurice, the expert, on how to propagate, locate suitable sites and companions, and demonstrate planting.

We also have many other plants flowering in the garden at this time of year, and Maurice will show you the highlights.
